Connie Citarelli, left, owner of the Green Box Boutique on the Woodstock Square, poses with Beverly Albright, Special Needs Coordinator at McHenry County College. The art they are holding was created by Ed Rietveld while in occupational therapy at the Adult & Child Rehab Center.
Beverly Albright first saw Ed's artwork in a 2008 calendar that was created and distributed by the Adult & Child Rehab Center. She had framed the picture from the calendar, entitled "Snowy Day" and hung it with some others in the Special Needs office. Recently, while shopping in the Green Box Boutique, Beverly stumbled on Ed's framed art and decided she would love to have it. MCC's art curator agreed to purchase the art and it has now become a part of the school's permanent collection, finding a home hanging in the Special Needs Department.
While a student at MCC, Ed was a big part of the Special Needs Department. He graduated in December of 2009 and now, at 22 years old, plans to attend Northern Illinois University this fall to become a sports writer.
The Adult & Child Rehab Center provides physical, occupational and speech therapies, as well as home health care, to the residents of McHenry. Many of the Center's patients use their art skills in occupational therapy as a way of strengthening their fine motor skills. Connie Citarelli generously offered to display some of the Rehab Center's patient artwork in her store the Green Box Boutique on the Woodstock Square.
